Music in Church

The Worship Group.

This group is at the heart of the music at St Andrews. It consists of Twelve members who are passionate about their music, their love of God and leading people into a deeper worship experience through music.
We have a wide and rich source of styles of worship from the traditional Anglican hymns to modern and recent spiritual songs. Several of our group are gifted instrumentalists as well as singers and enjoy adding colour and flexibility for the different hymns and services.

We rehearse on a Tuesday evening from 6.30 – 7.30 and again Sunday morning at 10.00a.m. before the Sunday morning service. This is to give flexibility and choice for either practice.
We are always happy for new members to join in, there is no audition, only a heart for singing and fellowship with other musicians.

The Organ.

The Organ is an electro- pneumatic two manual instrument. It has some very sensitive, quiet, speaking stops that greatly enhance meditative and spiritual times, yet it also can make full ‘Grande Jeu’ sounds when we want to express those exciting times that are so much part of the Christian faith and experience.
It was restored and updated by Percy Daniel in 1967, therefore it will probably require some restoration in the not too distant future.

The Piano.

We have a fine 6ft. 3ins. grand piano by Bluthner of Lepzig. It was restored by Anthony Chappell fifteen years ago.
It has Aliquot stringing (resonant sympathetic strings in the treble) and the Bluthner patent action.
It is used for almost every service because it is such a beautiful instrument for accompanying modern hymns, and leading more informal services. It is used for formal concerts and recitals that happen regularly in the Church.
