The Friends of St. Andrew's was launched in January 2002 and its aim is to help towards the cost of the maintenance, care and development of the Church, Refectory and other associated buildings, together with their major furnishings and grounds.

With ever increasing expenditure on repairs and improvements to the ancient buildings which form the nucleus of Congresbury, it was no longer practical to expect the church congregation to bear this cost alone.

As all the buildings involved are Grade 1 listed, and are strictly controlled by ecclesiastical, cultural and conservation limitations, this has added to the burden.

Most villagers are proud of the tradition and heritage that these buildings embody, and they are considered unique in North Somerset.

Some residents may only make use of their function on specific occasions, but they do want them preserved for the future.

The Friends of St. Andrew's represents a means of becoming involved in that future.

As well as regular fund raising activities, the Friends welcome donations, either on a one-off basis, or a regular monthly or annual commitment.

With Gift Aid, there is the advantage of an additional bonus from the tax system, provided the donor pays income tax.

Over the years, the Friends have raised thousands of pounds, which has been used for essential repairs to the Refectory porch, and a major contribution towards converting the old stable into a modern church office.

Plans for the future include musical concerts, a photo competition to produce a Congresbury Christmas card, a pub quiz, coffee morning and barbecue.
